ผู้ชนะรางวัลออสการ์ประจำปีครั้งที่ 96 ได้รับการเปิดเผยที่โรงละคร Dolby ที่ Ovation Hollywood ถ่ายทอดสดทางช่อง ABC ในปีนี้เริ่มต้นเร็วและจบเร็วกว่าปกติ
Oppenheimer ของผู้กำกับคนเก่ง “คริสโตเฟอร์ โนแลน” หรือที่ชาวเน็ตตั้งฉายาให้ว่า เสด็จพ่อโนแลน คว้ารางวัลภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยม ขณะที่ตัวโนแลนเองก็คว้ารางวัลผู้กำกับยอดเยี่ยมไปครองได้สำเร็จ
โดยใช้เวลาร่วม 15 ปี หลังเรื่อง The Dark Knight ผลงานของโนแลนเคยได้เข้าชิง 8 สาขา ยกเว้นภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยม ซึ่งตอนนั้นคนต่างวิพากษ์วิจารณ์ถึงการก่อกำแพงของออสการ์ที่มีต่อหนังซูเปอร์ฮีโร่
และนับเป็นครั้งแรกของชีวิตนักแสดง โรเบิร์ต ดาวนีย์ จูเนียร์ ชนะรางวัลออสการ์ครั้งแรกในชีวิต จากนักแสดงสมทบชายยอดเยี่ยมในเรื่อง Oppenheimer
ตามด้วยชื่อของเอ็มม่า สโตน, ซิลเลียน เมอร์ฟี่, ดา’ไวน์ จอย แรนดอล์ฟ, บิลลี อายลิช และฟินเนียส โอคอนเนลล์ ที่ถือรางวัลกลับบ้านด้วยเช่นกัน
แต่ที่มาแรงที่สุดในปีเห็นจะเป็น Oppenheimer ที่สามารถกวาดรางวัลกลับบ้านไปได้ถึง 7 สาขา ทั้งภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยม ผู้กำกับยอดเยี่ยม นักแสดงนำชายยอดเยี่ยม นักแสดงสมทบชายยอดเยี่ยม การถ่ายทำยอดเยี่ยม ดนตรีประกอบยอดเยี่ยม ตัดต่อยอดเยี่ยม จากที่มีชื่อเข้าชิงทั้งหมด 13 สาขา
ตามมาด้วย Poor Things ที่ได้เข้าชิง 11 สาขา ได้ไป 4 รางวัล, Killers of the Flower Moon 10 สาขา แต่ชวดทั้งหมด และ Barbie เข้าชิง 8 สาขา คว้าไปเพียงเพลงประกอบภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยมเท่านั้น
รางวัลนักแสดงนำหญิงยอดเยี่ยมไม่พลิกโผ Emma Stone จาก Poor Things เอาชนะลิลี่ แกลดสโตน จาก Killers of the Flower Moon ถือเป็นคู่แข่งที่สมน้ำสมเนื้อ
ฟากฝั่งแอนิเมชัน คุณลุงฮายาโอะ มิยาซากิ ขวัญใจคอการ์ตูนจาก Studio Ghibli กับผลงาน The Boy and the Heron ได้รางวัลภาพยนตร์แอนิเมชั่นยอดเยี่ยมไปครองอย่างสมศักดิ์ศรี
ขณะที่ The Zone of Interest ของโจนาธาน เกลเซอร์ ได้รับรางวัลออสการ์สาขาภาพยนตร์ต่างประเทศยอดเยี่ยม ซึ่งขณะนี้ยังคงฉายอยู่ในโรงภาพยนตร์
Billie Eilish และ Finneas O’Connell คว้ารางวัลออสการ์สาขาเพลงต้นฉบับยอดเยี่ยมจาก “What Was I Made For?” จากบาร์บี้
